3-4:30pm Central European Time
Strengthening transparency is often seen as an effective and pragmatic tool to tackle corruption in fisheries. However, even with a greater public interest in the fisheries sector, basic information still often remains out of the public domain, diminishing the prospect of effective oversight and accountability.
This webinar will highlight practical insights from transparency efforts in African countries, including from the first transparency reports on fisheries management in Seychelles and Mauritania. Further, the webinar will provide guidance for stakeholders (especially policy makers) on how to implement transparency endeavours and how to overcome technical challenges or political reluctancies.
Moderator:
Sven Biermann, Executive Director at Fisheries Transparency Initiative, Seychelles
Speakers:
Theo Chiviru, Regional Lead: Africa and the Middle East at Open Government Partnership, South Africa
Dr. Jude Bijoux, Managing Director at Fisheries and Marine Consultancy Services, Seychelles
