Organization Description:

Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL) is a public-sector general insurance company owned by the Government of India. In the rural and agricultural space, OICL underwrites crop and livestock policies, specialized schemes for horticulture and plantations, and agriculture-linked infrastructure, with distribution through its branch network, banks, and rural insurance intermediaries.

Role in Indian Shrimp Aquaculture: OICL offers a shrimp-crop insurance program developed along with ICAR-CIBA, combining weather-index features with disease-cover during the shrimp grow-out cycle. The scheme provides payouts for cyclone, heavy rainfall, flooding, temperature shocks, salinity disturbances, and also insures against WSSV, AHPND, and other bacterial and viral infections during the 120–130-day culture period. Packages may include grow-out cover, early mortality cover (seed/PL), and optional water-quality add-ons.
