A Collaborative Effort Towards Socially Responsible Tuna
Big news in the world of tuna: the Global Tuna Alliance (GTA) has just released the Tuna 2020 Traceability Declaration Social Responsibility Toolkit.
This toolkit is the fourth in a series of resources created by the GTA to support the Tuna 2020 Traceability Declaration signatories in achieving their commitments on traceability, social and environmental responsibility, and government partnership. Each toolkit provides an overview of a unique commitment, its related goal, purpose, and how to demonstrate progress in achieving that commitment.
Collaboratively developed by the GTA and FishWise, this toolkit provides an overview of the priority topics and guidance outlined in FishWise’s Roadmap for Improving Seafood Ethics (RISE). Although some companies have taken bold steps to protect human and labor rights, others are only getting started, and the result of this joint effort will make it easier for companies to track progress and identify best-practices. Companies exploring the toolkit will find many resources to help them improve business operations, implement worker-centered solutions, and build responsible tuna supply chains.
“We were thrilled to partner with the Global Tuna Alliance on this project and leverage the guidance and resources found on the RISE platform to support companies in identifying new social responsibility priorities. There is a lot of work ahead in the journey to build responsible tuna supply chains, but we see this as an important resource for guiding businesses in the right direction.” – Nathan Zetterberg, Senior Project Manager at FishWise.
