Organization Description:

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is the specialised United Nations agency leading international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition, food security, and sustainable agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. FAO provides technical assistance, global data and statistics, policy advice, and convening platforms to governments, producers, and communities. In India, FAO works through its Country Programming Framework 2023–2027 on climate-resilient agriculture, nutrition, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and One Health, aligned with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Role in Indian Shrimp Aquaculture: FAO supports India's shrimp sector through its work on sustainable aquaculture, responsible fisheries, antimicrobial resistance, and One Health. It provides technical guidance on biosecurity, genetic improvement, disease surveillance, responsible use of antimicrobials, and small-scale aquaculture development, and hosts the Committee on Fisheries Sub-Committee on Aquaculture. FAO's country program and global guidance documents are reference frameworks for Indian government agencies and multilateral projects seeking to strengthen sustainability and equity in shrimp aquaculture.
