The National Green Tribunal (NGT) is India’s specialized quasi-judicial body established under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010, for the effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, and enforcement of environmental rights.

Role in Indian Shrimp Aquaculture: NGT issues rulings on aquaculture-related environmental matters in coastal and inland areas, including cases such as encroachment into wildlife sanctuaries, noncompliance with coastal regulation zones, effluent discharge into creeks, and mangrove destruction. NGT orders shape regulatory enforcement for coastal and inland shrimp farms, and non-compliance can result in farm closures or penalties.
