Organization Description:

United India Insurance Company Limited (UIIC) is a public-sector general insurer, wholly owned by the Government of India. Its rural portfolio covers crop and livestock schemes, aquaculture, micro-insurance, and agri-business policies, and it partners with banks, cooperatives, and government agencies to reach farmers and small enterprises across India.

Role in Indian Shrimp Aquaculture: UIIC provides an aquaculture insurance policy covering brackishwater shrimp and freshwater prawn farms against risks such as summer kill, pollution, disease (on additional premium), natural calamities, and riot and strike. It is one of the handful of public-sector insurers underwriting shrimp in India and is part of ongoing efforts, together with AIC, Oriental, and ICAR-CIBA, to revive and expand shrimp-crop insurance, making it a key financial-risk partner for farmers and banks in the Indian shrimp sector.
