SALT’s local partners, Aqua-Farms Organization, conducted a catch documentation and traceability (CDT) gap analysis for the small-scale octopus fishery in the Kilwa District, Tanzania. The gap analysis was defined as a necessary activity during the application of the Comprehensive Traceability Principles and Pathway. The report presents social and economic drivers for the CDT, describes the supply chain, and assesses data needs and requirements to apply the comprehensive traceability principles. Furthermore, the analysis assessed the structure and management of the Kilwa octopus fisheries sector including relevant national and international instruments, private sector engagement, and lastly challenges and opportunities, regarding implementation of eCDT.
