Women fish too: Invisible women in tuna industries

Women play an essential role in the fisheries sector. However, the idea that only male fish in the tuna small-scale fisheries sector persists. In countries like Indonesia, the government does not officially recognize women as professional fishers and, therefore, they cannot register their occupation and access to government support provided to fishers.

This document analyzes the gender dynamic in small-scale tuna fisheries in South-East Asia, presenting key findings and highlighting areas needing to improve gender inclusion in the tuna small-scale fisheries.
